STAYING INFORMED – THE ‘GENUINE’ FACTS

It does happen. Many owners of expensive late-model vehicles have a new windscreen fitted-only to find out it wasn’t a genuine part and has affected the ongoing value and integrity of their vehicle.

Make an informed choice….
  • Replacing a windscreen on a late-model vehicle fitted with the latest driver-aid technology should only include Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) glass and components purchased through the dealership and showing the manufacturer’s emblem as proof of origin.
  • Non-genuine parts can result in inferior quality, alignment, functionality and finish.
  • Late model vehicles no longer use traditional rubber mouldings and trims but feature the new “floating glass” finish or flush-fitting reverse mouldings to enhance the sleek modern line of the vehicle.
  • Therefore traditional materials and technology, as offered by many in the industry, are not suitable for these vehicles.
  • Today’s manufacturers are setting zero-tolerance levels in the design of their vehicles with ‘flowing’ body shapes, the continuation of design features, tighter gap tolerances on body and glass panels and the ultimate standards in body and paint finishes – this means it is crucial to use OEM Replacement Glass and components made to the exact manufacturer’s specifications.
  • With the latest driver-aid technologies attached to the inside of the screen it is important that all components such as brackets, camera windows and electrics are in the exact original position. Necessary for dealership recalibration.
  • In fact, dealerships have been known to refuse to undertake recalibrating if a non-genuine glass component has been fitted.
